Areas of Intervention

* Fine Motor Skills- these skills require the small muscles and coordination of the hands.

        * Some examples

                * holding a pencil/pen

                * Taking top off water bottle

                * Using scissors

                * Buttoning or zipping clothes

                * Tying shoes

                * Using a spoon/fork

                * Building with Legos

* Gross Motor Skills:  these skills require the large muscles of the body.

         * Some example

                *rolling

                *sitting

                * Walking

                * Running

                * Throwing/ catching

                * Brining arms over head to get                          dressed

                * Balancing on one foot

                * Riding a bike

* Visual Motor skills:  these skills require both fine motor skills and vision to perform tasks.

         * Some examples

                * Handwriting

                * Puzzles

                * Copying shapes

                * Tying shoes

                * Catching/throwing/kicking

                * Cutting a straight line

                * Tracing

* Social/ emotional Skills:  these skills are the skills we use when interacting with others.

         * Some examples

                * Using non-verbal                                          communication

                * Reading non-verbal                                      communication

                * Sharing/turn taking

                * Maintaining a topic of                                  conversation

                * Personal boundaries

                * Joint attention:  is when two                        or more people focus on the                      same thing.  

                * Recognizing emotions

* Self-care/ Activities of Daily Living Skills:  these are the skills we use to take care of  ourself.

         * Some examples:

                * Eating

                * Cleaning up/ chores

                * Getting dressed

                * Personal Hygiene 

                * Home safety

                * Using money

 

* Cognitive/ Executive functioning  Skills:  these skills:  these skills include learning skills as well as neurological skills that provide mental control and self-regulation.

         * Some examples:

                * Attention

                * Time management

                * Adaptability/flexibility

                * Organization

                * Inhibition
